Syed T. Hussain, MD

As a cardiothoracic surgeon at NYU Langone Cardiothoracic Surgery Associates, I am dedicated to providing compassionate patient care. I specialize in adult cardiac procedures, including coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG), aortic and mitral valve surgery, complex re-operative cardiac operations, aortic aneurysm surgery, and surgery for infective endocarditis.

Additionally, I am experienced in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and heart failure surgery, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), heart transplant, and left ventricular assist devices (LVAD). With more than two decades of experience, my extensive training and expertise ensure that my patients receive the highest standard of care.

My passion for heart surgery began in high school after watching a television program about a heart transplant operation. This experience ignited a lifelong commitment to the field of cardiothoracic surgery, driving me to pursue a career in which I can make a significant impact on patients' lives.

I completed my medical school, general surgery residency, and cardiothoracic surgery residency at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, followed by advanced fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic.

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in clinical research and education, contributing to numerous clinical trials and publishing extensively in leading scientific journals. I have also authored several book chapters and presented at international and national conferences on various cardiothoracic surgical topics. One of my key areas of expertise is the surgical treatment of infective endocarditis, and I was a core writing committee member for the 2016 American Association for Thoracic Surgery Clinical Guidelines for Surgical Treatment of Infective Endocarditis.
